09-18-2007 : Almost Have A House!
After much pro-bono work, dropping contracts, getting new contracts, and just struggling through life in general.. it appears we will actually be getting a townhouse in the Green Lake area of Seattle. Now, this is officially draining any finances we may have had, as you can only imagine how much it costs to live in such a place. Just rediculous! But it's closer to Jeff's work and I try not to make his life harder, so I have learned to just agree. I think it will be nice for a change anyway. =) The babies will have their own room (the entire gigantic GARAGE!), so they can stop trashing the house -- can't wait! We're going to spoil them with all sorts of tunnels, new toys, larger bedding and other fun things!
Jeff says that we may be able to become an unofficial shelter. I'm kind of stoked and scared. I love animals, but I am having so much trouble juggling the furkids, my job, Jeff, friends (what friends?!), and myself that I don't know if I should really consider jumping in further at this point. I feel very much pulled in every direction and I think the fragile fabric that makes me who I am is starting to tear under the strain. Just one of those years I guess. I feel very old for only being 24!
Lately I have been having more and more crazy conversations with people about ferrets. Ok, seriously, stop bathing the ferrets and they won't stink! Jeez! Also, clean up after them. So many people come over to my house and, no matter how trashed the ferrets may have had it at one point, no one even realizes I have ferrets until I tell them or show my little ones off. Yup! Because I scrub the hell out of the carpets every chance I get. I swear by the Bissel brand of carpet cleaner. Pair that with a heavy duty vacumm for some serious deep scrubbing action and all is golden.
Ferrets are like children, just like all other pets, and you need to be responsible enough to clean up after them no matter how crappy your day/week/year has been. No matter what my ferrets get a clean cage, clean water, and fresh food EVERY DAY! They get fresh bedding one or two times a week, unless they make extra messes, but luckily things have been peachy lately. [Knocks on Formica for further good luck].
I just wish people would do just a little more research before they THINK they HAVE to have an animal, pet or child. These are the same people that tie their dog outside to a half empty food bowl and moldy water dish. You'd think eventually a little light would come on and say "hey.. hey.. I think maybe this isn't such a good idea.. maybe you should treat animals the way you'd like to be treated."
Ah, back to work. It's 2 AM and I need to finish up another 50 illustrations. Jeez. The front page has the latest news from the FML.
09-17-2007 : Important Post From the FML
Date: Mon, 17 Sep 2007 14:26:13 -0600
From: Ferret's Dream House <ferret@DRAGONBBS.COM>
Subject: McKay Rescue Has Happened!
Due to personnel and health hardships, Unique Impressions Ferretry owner Douglas McKay surrendered all his ferrets to Ferret's Dream House Shelter.
Ferret Lovers PLEASE HELP!!! I have in my possession hundreds of breeder ferrets of all ages that were surrendered on Sunday 9/16 from Douglas McKay. I need each and everyone of you to assist in the distribution of these ferrets. You have permission to cross post this e-mail.
These ferrets have not been vaccinated at this time. A group in November were tested and ADV negative. Also, it is very important to remember these ferrets are not used to being handled and will need tender loving care.
The guidelines for adoption to be followed are:
1. A spay/neuter contract will have to be signed and you will be required to have them spayed/neutered within 60 days. Proof of spay/neuter must be sent to the shelter upon completion. Kits need to be spayed/neutered by 4 months of age. If you are picking up ferrets for someone other than yourself you must bring a signed contract by them.
2. Due to the large quantity, I cannot accommodate special color requests. I would prefer you take ferrets how they are grouped by cages if at all possible.
3. There will be no adoption fees, but a donation is requested.
I will be extremely busy taking care of these ferrets so I will not be answering e-mails other than adoption requests. If you are unable to adopt a ferret donations are greatly appreciated and tax deductible.
Thank you in advance.

08-02-2007 : Took Some Time Away -- But Not Really
After losing the boys, I kind of sunk into a slight depression and didn't see the point of living anymore. Then I snapped out of it.
Have been working and donating some time to the shelter. I am collaborating with the new director on ways to keep the shelter running and get some good volunteers in. If you live in the state of Washington and want to change animals live for the better, please contact WFRS right away. We need you!
I didn't send out an eNews for July and am late in putting together one for August, so I think this one will be a really long one with a few articles on topics that have come up a lot lately. One of the articles will center around fund-raising for shelters.
I am designing cards to sell on eBay, as well as for WFRS where they can resell them for a profit ,and would like extend this offer. I am only charging my cost and not time. So, you can make a good deal in profit depending on what you charge. If you'd like to take a look at said cards, please visit using the linked image below.

If you have anu questions, feel free to drop me a line and I will respond as soon as I can.
06-23-2007 : Two Angels & 6 Ferrets Later
We had lost Cappuccino on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007 and we lost Pumpkin on Monday, June 11, 2007. We had a feeling he wouldn't make it due to his severe illness, but we had tried very hard to save him. I wanted so badly to save him. For some reason it made Cappy's loss harder when I had to give permission to put Pumpkin to sleep. I cried for both of them when I kissed Pumpkin goodbye and handed him over to the vet. Another beautiful boy lost forever.
We were married on May 26, 2007. We honeymooned for a couple of days and relaxed for the rest of the week we had taken off from everything. Since June 10th, it's been nose to the grindstone getting back into the swing of things, deadlines, household chores, and what have you.
I am updating a few portions of the site and have decided, instead of waiting for complete sections to be done, I am going to upload each piece as it is completed. I have been reading a lot of terrible and tragic things lately on the FML, across the internet, and first hand accounts and my heart is urging me to stop wasting precious time -- time I don't have, so I wonder how I waste it. ;)
Sections updated this evening: Mascots (we have 3 new ones and 1 new angel!) and Update Section (makes sense since I tend to post lots of updates/news),.
Updates to come: New background (let's you know I'm alive), Intro to Ferret Care, Download Section, Rescue & Vet Sections, and a few others that I am too tired to remember.
05-12-2007 : A Death In The Family
Cappuccino succumbed to complete heart failure/stroke on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007 around 6:45 AM and we were finally able to get to emergency and put him to sleep at around 8 AM. Jeff and I lost our little boy so many years too soon. Cappy was only 2 years a few months old. His little heart wasn't designed for the life that he held. We miss him so much and will continue to miss him.
In honor of Cappy, we took in another little boy, Pumpkin, from the shelter who had become severely depressed and was starving himself to death. He came with 3 other siblings, so our house is full, but our hearts still have a rather large piece missing that will never be filled in.
The wedding is coming up on the 26th and we will be honeymooning on June 5th and 6th. I will try my best to get out an eNews for this month -- I know, always late! -- and for June.
I have been super swamped with contracts and can finally announce with much excitement that our debts are almost completely paid off. Who says hard work doesn't get you anywhere?! We have been doing nothing but working and are very much looking forward to those two days off!
Ever since that terrible morning that we lost Cappy, Jeff and I have reprioritized our lives; realizing that working, struggling, and placing value on the wrong things just makes it so much more devastating when you lose something that was taken for granted. We took our precious little time with Cappy for granted. We loved him, gave him a good home, played with him, but never did the thought cross our minds that we may lose him.. Only did it come up 5 days prior to his death. Ignorance is bliss. Once we had found out about his condition we did everything we could to try to save him, but it just wasn't meant to be. He never had a chance. Something to think about.
Updates should be in full force come July. I am set on getting this site live and have had some help in the background. Good stuff. Hang in there!
04-30-2007 : In The Midst of Chaos
Cappuccino gave us a scare last week and ended up having to under go several test with the terrifying revelation that his heart was on the brink of complete failure. Capps is currently on a lot of medication, as well as tons of bed rest in order to keep him calm and to prevent fainting episodes. Latte will be going in to the vet on Wednesday to have the same tests performed. Bean is recovering from his cold. Mocha is still suffering from stomach problems here and there, but it is well managed with Pepcid and tummy rubs.
Things have been crazy, but I am still here. Put together a new poll, as the other one charges and wasn't as great as I had hoped. This poll on the menu bar towards the bottom of the page is from PollDaddy.com and seems to do just what we need and is completely free. I would love to get everyone's location and age stats, but I doubt that information would even be volunteered, so for the time being, please redo your vote on the new poll. =)
Another noteworthy finding is we have an advertiser coming on board!! The very lovely Karen of Ferret Affair is gracing us with some of her product , so we can test it out firsthand and let the ferret community (as well as the dog , cat and small mammal community) know how great this product really is. We are excited that Karen chose us to advertise with and hope that everyone will welcome her and drop her a line for her support.
03-19-2007 : Time Flies
There is some progress being made in the background. We now have a great eNews going out every month. If you haven't signed up, you can check out the back issues under "Newsletter" on the menu. Finally updated the Photo Gallery Contest Winners and have sent confirmation emails out to notify them. We accept photos via email any time, so get out those cameras because you could be next!
02-26-2007 : Getting Closer
There is so much I want to tell you, but I feel like it would sound as if I am making excuses for why this isn’t up. Between a pending wedding in May, running the design gig, fostering the cutest set of biters ever, taking care of the mascots, getting the Pink Ferret store finished, and working on other stuff in the background.. well, sometimes I feel like I am going to collapse!
So, the update: Pink Ferret Online Store is almost complete! I have my fingers crossed that nothing will go wrong and I will have the upcoming weekend to finalize everything and make it all work. I have updated the link on the menu, so it takes you to the proper URL for it. If you ever want a shortcut, just type in www.PinkFerret.com and it will forward you to it.
Attention Sellers / Crafters
If you hand-make or sell anything ferret related and would like a place to sell it for you, please contact us for more information. We’re looking specifically for bedding (blankets, sleepers, beds, hammocks, hanging sleep tubes), but we’re open to everything. Here’s your chance to make a difference. We want to make the online store the best ever and we need your help!
02-14-2007 : Deadline Hopes Dashed
I had really hoped that this would be up by now, as the deadline I had set for myself was the 1st. of January for the store and the middle of February for the resource. Nothing is going as planned.
As you may or may not know, I am a sole proprietor of a web & graphic design business -- gotta eat, ya know. The last 4 months I have been slammed with contracts and demanding projects. Where this has been beneficial for the household and donating to causes, it has not been helpful in keeping with my Pink Ferret schedule.
Please don't abandon this site. I have gotten incredible feedback, emails, support and wonderful conversations that will stay with me for a lifetime. This site is going to thrive. Every free moment I get I am working on the resource. We may have been set back a bit as far as launch dates, but from now on, let's just consider this up. I didn't get to make the huge "grand opening" announcement that I had so hoped for, but it's for you and the animals, not me. I am just the conduit to this resource. You are what helps it to really become something special.
I thought I could handle this all by my lonesome, but I am realizing that this is going to take an incredible amount of devotion. I have set the foundation, now I need help. I am requesting anyone who wants to volunteer to please email me directly and tell me a bit about yourself. The more volunteers, the sooner this can really pull together.
Thank you all again for your support. You will continue to see improvements to the site, but there is no "official launch" date anymore. I'll just keeping adding stuff and logging it in the "Recent News" section for you to check out when you have time.
Happy Valentine's Day! Don't forget to hug your furbabies and tell them how special they are.
